FREEPORT – After three years of research, the Freeport Economic Development Corp. will roll out its Vision 2025 Economic Development Action Plan in a presentation Thursday, May 16, at the Freeport Town Hall.
According to Executive Director Keith McBride, the meeting will feature a presentation by the economic development consultants, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-based Camoin Associates, on the input and analyses that went into developing the plan and its conclusions.
“It’s an action plan that we developed by taking the community’s vision for the future of economic development in Freeport as it’s stated in the town’s current comprehensive plan and also by doing public outreach,” said McBride. “We asked a cross-section of the community what they wanted to see in Freeport and what they like about Freeport.”
The group held two public meetings to hear what areas people in the community wanted to focus on in terms of economic development, and used that information as a blueprint on how to get there, said McBride.
“The vision statement relates to policy and procedures that will help us get to that vision,” said McBride.
Camoin Associates also interviewed key stakeholders in Freeport, such as Town Planner Donna Larson, business leaders, and people McBride identified as prominent citizens in the town. The goal is to have a vision guide the town’s economic activity in the coming years.
“It’s important to stress that this is will not replace the town’s current comprehensive plan,” said McBride.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Freeport Town Hall.
