CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The transit police officer who authorities say was severely wounded by the Boston Marathon bombing suspects remains in critical condition at a Cambridge hospital.
Mount Auburn Hospital spokesman Michael O’Connell says the officer had emergency surgery after suffering a single gunshot wound. The 33-year-old Richard Donohue was brought to the hospital at about 1 a.m. Friday after a shootout with the suspects.

Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority spokesman Joe Pesaturo says Donohue is a married father of a 6-month-old child. He has been with the MBTA’s police department for three years.
Donohue graduated in the same police academy class as Sean Collier, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer who authorities say was killed by the two suspects.
One of the bombing suspects is dead. The other remains at large.
