Maine police are paying close attention to the situation in Boston but have not been asked to send officers to help the search for a suspect in the Boston marathon bombings.
However, a Maine State Police detective has been in Boston to assist the investigators looking into the Boston Marathon bombing since Tuesday, the day after the blasts.
“He does have some expertise that he is sharing with the investigative team which is following up on the bombings,” said State Police spokesman Steve McCausland. Police are not identifying the detective or the specific skills he has, McCausland said.
“Beyond that, there has been no request for additional resources from Massachusetts State Police as a result of events overnight,” McCausland said.
Portland police also are maintaining a heightened vigilance but have no active part in the response.
