FREEPORT — Freeport Community Library will host Betty Williams, first-time author of “Mumma, Do You Hear Me,” on Monday, April 22, at 7 p.m. Williams will read from her recently published autobiography.
A news release describes the book as follows:
Born to a single mother in Auburn during the Great Depression, Williams married and joined her husband in the jungles of Brazil where they served as missionaries. There she performs various midwife duties and gives birth to two children of her own. This is followed by many years of teaching children in a variety of places, including Philadelphia and Alaska. Later in life, as a divorcee, Williams chooses to become a single mom when she adopts three children and provides a home to numerous foster children.
“Mumma, Do You Hear Me?” was written during William’s youngest daughter’s deployment to Iraq with the Maine National Guard as a way of connecting with her through storytelling.
Copies of “Mumma, Do You Hear Me?” will be available for purchase and signing following the presentation.
