BATH — Patten Free Library and the Union of Maine Visual Artists have partnered to offer a lineup of art programs during National Library Week, April 16 through 19. Each afternoon a different artist will be featured with the screening of a DVD from the Maine Masters collection, followed by a panel discussion.
This free film and discussion series allows attendees to sit together and converse with Maine Masters filmmakers, art historians and curators. The event has been underwritten by the Friends of Patten Free Library; the library’s core collection of Maine Masters films was made possible by a donation from the Kennebec Art Club. All donations collected at the week-long series will be used to purchase additional DVDs.
The series kicks off on Tuesday, April 16, at 4 p.m. Alan Crichton will introduce Robert Hamilton; Edgar Allen Beem will introduce Lois Dodd and Alan Magee. Special guests on subsequent days include Suzette McAvoy, Olive Pierce, Bruce Brown, Jess Lauren Lipton, Carl Little and Dahlov Ipcar.

The Maine Masters Project is the New England Emmynominated video series sponsored by the Union of Maine Visual Artists, a not-for-profit educational organization established in 1975.
The Project was begun in 1999 and has created an ongoing series of profiles of some of Maine’s most important and often least-known artists. There are currently 13 completed DVDs with five more in production. The series celebrates art making — it enhances our culture by encouraging people to think and feel more deeply about our world. The series is funded in part by grants and donations from many foundations and individuals.
