According to a news release, Miller is one of the premier autoharpists in the world as well as a renowned American folksinger and storyteller. He is also an accomplished folklorist, historian, musicologist and song-collector who has amassed a repertoire of more than 5,000 songs. Miller accompanies his rich, resonant baritone voice with lively finger-picking acoustic guitar and autoharp melodies.
Miller’s folk songs and ballads are the songs of America’s heritage; intended to be window into the soul of the nation in its youth. Miller enjoys pointing out the fascinating connections between events in history and the songs that survived them.
Mostly self-taught, Miller says that he learns just about everything by ear. He began his lifelong pursuit of collecting old songs while still in grade school. Armed with an audio-graphic memory, his childhood ambition was to learn every song he heard.
Throughout his long career,
Miller has documented and kept alive the thousands of songs and stories he has collected in his travels.
The concert will be performed at the historic 1802 Phippsburg Congregational Church, situated on the banks of the Kennebec, 10 Church Lane, off Parker Head Road.
Tickets are available at the door. Admission is $10; students and children $6 (children younger than 8 admitted free). Refreshments will be served. Doors open at 7 p.m. a Miller will also be holding an autoharp workshop the day following the concert at a private residence in the
Phippsburg area.
