Coach: Ryan Jones
Last year’s record: 17-3
Key players: Ben Greenberg, Brendan Hall, Nick Bagley, Sam Wessel, Jayme Lappin
Key games: Westbrook, Portland, Cheverus
Outlook: The Red Storm are coming off a loss in the state championship. They return nine players, hungry to claim what they couldn’t last season. “We know what it takes to get there,” says Jones, “and are going to work hard every day to give ourselves the best chance to make that happen.”

Coach: Tom Griffin
Last year’s record: 20-1
Key players: Erin Giles (sr., P), Marisa O’Toole (sr., 2B/SS), Paige Moore-Haskell (sr., C/OF), Grace Farnkoff (sr., SS/3B), Mary Redmond (sr. OF), Sydney Litrocapes (sr., 1B/OF), Alyssa Williamson (jr., P/1B), Megan Murrell (jr., C/3B), Brenna Kent (jr., 2B/OF/1B)
Key games: South Portland, TA, Noble, Biddeford
Outlook: “We have a great core of returning players from our SMAA conference championship team,” Griffin says. The Red Storm will be led by Giles and Williamson in the circle, both of whom Griffin calls “outstanding.” He’s confident in his offense and defense this year, as many starters are returning. The Red Storm hope to make a run for the state title.

Outlook: The Red Storm won the Class A state meet last season, and hope to stay competitive this season, but are a young team now. Kelly says their strengths will be in the high jump, relays, the 800, and the discus. He expects them to spend the next couple years rebuilding.

Last year’s record: 15-1
Key players: Meg Kirsch (sr.), Ashley Ronzo (sr.), Avery Pietras (sr.), Maiti Kent (sr.), Kaitlin Prince (so.)
Key games: Kennebunk, Cape, Cheverus, Marshwood
Outlook: The Lady Red Storm graduated 12 seniors last year, including the majority of their goal scorers. As with the boys team, many underclassmen who’ve been patiently waiting their turn on the field will get the opportunity to demonstrate their skill and determination this season. Kirsch is the team’s most experienced player, and plays goal, while Morgan Rodway (jr.) will lead the defense with the help of Hadless Yescott (jr.) and Rachel Wallace (jr.). Wood looks to Pietras, Kent, and Prince to put the ball in the net.

Coach: Joe Hezlep (6th year)
Last year’s record: 14-1, Class A state champs for the third consecutive season
Key players: John Wheeler (sr.), Dalton Finley (sr.), David Pearson (sr.), Brendon Smith (jr.), Cam Loiselle (jr.)
Key games: Portland, Kennebunk, Thornton
Outlook: Wheeler was named U.S. Lacrosse All-American in 2012, after recording 51 goals and 33 assists, both league highs, and Finley was named second-team all-conference, so the Red Storm have prowess. However, they graduated 14 seniors last year, including six of their eight top scorers and three-time all-conference Andrew Jones. “This year’s team will need to fill those roles very quickly,” Hezlep says. “We only return four starters from last season’s squad.” Luckily, many players who didn’t get much playing time last season were, in fact, ready to compete at the varsity level; they simply had seniors in front of them. Those players will need to step into new and bigger roles, Hezlep adds.

Coaches: Derek Veilleux
Last year’s record: 9-3 regular season, 3rd in county championships, 4th at SMAA championship, 4th in Class A states
Key players: Ryan Jamison (sr.), Robert Hall (sr.), Jake Alofs (sr.), Merrick Madden (sr.), Kevin Manning (sr.), Anthony Verzoni (sr.), Cameron Langlois (jr.), Alex Karam (jr.), Mike Pino (jr.), Jerry Kenney (so.), Hugh McSorley (so.), Mike Granzier (so.), Edward James (so.), Colin Jones (so.), Will Fowler (so.), Jacob Bloom (so.), Jacob Terry (so.), Sean McGovern (so.), Drew Wells (so.), Kenny Adams (jr.), Colin Tardiff (fr.)
Key games: SMAAs and states
Outlook: “We’ve got another strong team this spring,” Veilleux says, though he emphasizes the importance of staying healthy. He also stresses the “good mix of experience and youth” the Red Storm possess, and looks forward to covering all events. “This group of seniors has been very successful; the only thing missing is an outdoor state title.” He will train his team’s attention on running its best in the championship meets.
