BRUNSWICK — In celebration of Disability Awareness Month, Spindleworks Art Center and Spin Off Studios will present a collection of recent short animations at Frontier Cafe and Cinema, Fort Andross, 14 Maine St.
Audiences are invited to “Spindleworks in Motion,” a 30-minute series exploring the evolution of animation projects created at Spindleworks and Spin Off Studios Wednesday, March 27, at 11:30 a.m., 2 and 7 p.m.
Included short films were created using flipbooks, stop motion and cutout animation techniques. Selections will also include artist Crank Sturgeon’s collaboration with Spindleworks artists, which produced an animated montage of drawings created during the residency. A limited edition zine also produced during the residency will be available for sale.
As part of the matinee and evening screenings, Spindleworks will also present the 90- minute documentary film “Wretches and Jabberers,” produced by Academy Awardwinning filmmaker Gerardine Wurzburg. Wurzburg’s documentary chronicles the world travels of disability rights advocates Tracy Thresher and Larry Bissonnette in a bold quest to change attitudes about the intelligence and abilities of people with autism, a news release said.
The entire program is open and free to the public, with donations welcomed to cover the cost of the event and to support art programming at Spindleworks and Spin Off Studios.
Spindleworks Art Center based in Brunswick and Spin Off Studios in Hallowell are programs of the Independence Association, which assists adults and children with disabilities in obtaining full and inclusive lives in their chosen community.
