WISCASSET — Jeffrey Miller, a master blacksmith and historian from Waldoboro, will describe the work of a Colonial New England blacksmith on Sunday, March 10.
The talk, which is a presentation of the Lincoln County Historical Association Winter Lecture Series, will be held at 2 p.m. in the Communications (“911”) building behind the Court House.
Miller will describe the daily work of a blacksmith as recorded in their account books and day books. According to a news release, the blacksmith’s work pattern changed according to the season, and he will show samples of items that the smith might make for his customers, including a pair of ice skates, a gun lock and cooking tools.
Miller is often called upon to speak about New England Colonial trades at educational seminars and historical events where he demonstrates the craft of blacksmithing on a reproduction 18th century traveling forge.
Suggested donation is $5. Coffee and pastries will be provided.
