Ron built, owned and operated Florida Lake Recreation in Freeport, off Route 125. He also raised 25 thousand chickens at a time, several times a year, taking a break between each brood to travel. He had the opportunity to see all 50 States and a few foreign countries along the way.
Ron enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and loved his chainsaw. A woodsman through and through he built five houses that are “still standing.” He loved people and was an easy conversationalist.
He was an avid trolley enthusiast and was a member of the Seashore Electric Railway and Trolley Museum in Arundel. He authored a book on trolleys that was sold by LL Bean for a number of years. He was a member of the Freeport Historical Society, Freeport Elders, Oak Leaf Seniors of Freeport, American Legion, VFW, Transworld Radio and a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Freeport.
Ron is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy “Dot” Cummings of Freeport; his son, Ronald Cummings Jr. and his wife Janet of Freeport; his daughter Linda Cummings Foster and her husband Peter of Freeport; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his brother Leon Cummings and his wife Mattie of Southborough, MA; nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be on Friday, March 8 from 5 – 7 PM at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 9 at 1 PM at First Baptist Church of Freeport, 185 Main Street, Freeport with a reception after in the church hall. Burial will be later this spring in Burr Cemetery.
