BRUNSWICK — Gertrude “Trudy” E. Wilson Catlin, 88, died February 22, 2013, with her sons by her side at the Skolfield House in Brunswick.
Trudy was born March 28, 1924, in Brunswick, Maine, to Clement D. and Annie L. Larrabee Wilson. She graduated from Brunswick High School in 1942 and married Arnold “Skeet” H. Catlin in 1943 while he was home on leave from the U.S. Navy. Once home from the Navy, he worked for the town of Brunswick as a bus driver and later as Brunswick’s first codes enforcement officer. Trudy worked at Senter’s, Dentist Haskel & Browne, Jarvis Restaurant, and then spent 22 years waitressing at the Chuck Wagon at Cook’s Corner. She and Skeet spent winters in Florida after retirement until Skeet died in November, 1995.
Trudy joined the VFW in 1945 in Brunswick, and later joined the Bath Auxiliary. She was an active member for 60 years serving the VFW in several capacities including District President. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she served many years on the altar guild. She volunteered at People Plus for many years as well, and was volunteer of the year in 1999.
In retirement, Trudy enjoyed volunteering, family gatherings, spending time with friends and dining out. She knitted, quilted, read books, did crossword puzzles and enjoyed gardening.
Trudy and Skeet had four children, James Clement (died in 1947), Ann Holly (died in 1951. She is survived by her son James Wilson of Harpswell, his spouse Lorraine, her son Stephen Arnold of Brunswick and his companion Karin Sinclair. She is also survived by her brother Donald Wilson and his wife Lilla of Georgetown. Trudy had four grandchildren Janelle, Tana, Jamie and Barry, and six great grandchildren, Kyle, Alex, Katie, Boupha, Khamay and Kalaya.
The entire family sends many thanks to CHANS Hospice, and the Skolfield House in Brunswick, and asks that donations be sent to one of these organizations in lieu of flowers.
Services will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 1 p.m.
