She was born March 28, 1938 in Boston, MA a daughter of Richard and Emily Walsh Ward. She was a graduate of Massachusetts Memorial Hospital School of Nursing ’60, received her Bachelor of Nursing degree from St. Joseph’s College Windham ’75, and later specialized as a nurse oncologist. She married Floyd Goffin in Hampton NH on April 19, 1962. The Goffins have been residents of Brunswick since 1972.
Mrs. Goffin had been employed in Boston by Massachusetts General Hospital and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, as well as East Tennessee State University College of Medicine and also VOC Regional 10 teaching nursing education in Brunswick, Me.
Her care for others extended well into her personal endeavors. She was an attentive mother, homemaker and a loving wife to Floyd for over 50 years. Her love of knitting produced mittens and hats that were donated to US soldiers in Afghanistan. She enjoyed quilting, and was especially proud of being a self-described “hooker,” having several rug hooking groups she attended regularly. She was also accomplished in crewelwork and needle point; her reupholstering of antique furniture was admired and referenced in publications.
She enjoyed regular travel with her husband. The couple enjoyed holidays into Bar Harbor and Nova Scotia, and took extended vacations throughout much of Europe, her favorite destination being Ireland where she visited the places of her parents and ancestors. The couple attended services and functions through All Saints Parish. She was a member of several local book clubs and a member of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association and active in the Maine support group.
She was predeceased by a sister, Teresa Ward Kelley, Arlington, TX.
She is survived by her husband; a son CPT Keith Wayne Goffin and his wife Lina of Fayetteville, NC; two daughters, Jennifer Lynn Ferry of Superior, CO, Deidre Jacqueline Hoffman of Portland, ME; a brother, Richard Ward of Boston, MA; a sister, Maureen Ward of Dorchester, MA; three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
At her request, services will be private. Interment will take place in Hillcrest Cemetery, Harpswell, Me. Memorial contributions can be made to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (www.phassociation.org) or American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
