SACO — Leia Togni Brown, 97, died peacefully Monday, February 25, 2013, at Seal Rock Healthcare in Saco after a period of failing health.

Leia was born on January 19, 1916 in Waterville, ME, the daughter of Pietro (Peter) Giovanni and Mary Katherine Lupini Togni formerly of Bergamo Italy. She was the third oldest of eight children and the first of her siblings born in the United States.

Leia was a graduate of Waterville High School and Morgan-Thomas Business College in Waterville ME.

On June 24, 1939 Leia married Ralph Frederick Brown and moved to Bath, ME to raise their family. She was employed for many years with the former B.I.W. Credit Union, (now known as Five Counties Federal Credit Union) retiring as assistant branch manager.

Upon retiring Leia moved to Dover, NH, where she was an active member of the Dover Women’s Club and a volunteer at the Dover Public Library. She remained in Dover until moving to Kennebunk, ME in 2006 to be closer to family.

Leia is predeceased by her husband, Ralph Frederick Brown; her brothers Hector and Joseph Togni; and her sisters Rena York, Pearl Shirley, Rita Bickford and Ida Togni.

Survivors include her sister Nancy Turlo of Waterville, ME; daughter Barbara Marshall of Summerfield, NC; son R. Frederick Brown of W. Hartford, CT; stepdaughter Jeanette Brown of Albuquerque, NM; grand-daughters Stephanie Limmer and Leia Lowery of Kennebunk, ME, Sarah Maurer of Westfield, MA; grand-sons Peter Wilson of Chicago IL and Adam Brown of W. Hartford, CT. ; and her five great grandchildren Marshall, Caroline and Henry Lowery and Sarah and Margo Limmer.

A memorial service will be held March 30, 2013 at 11 AM at the West Kennebunk United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 US Route One, #1, Scarborough, ME 04074.
