BATH — Centre St. Arts Gallery, LLC, announces a watercolor exhibit and workshop by guest artist Marsha Donahue.
The gallery will show several of Donahue’s watercolors from March 1 to March 3 at 11 Centre St. A reception for the artist will be held today, March 1, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Donahue will teach a watercolor workshop on Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the gallery’s studio classroom. Students are invited to a two-day intensive workshop covering the basic techniques of water control, handling form and light, and rescuing struggling paintings.
We will go from concept and starting, to “middle muddle,” through to finishing the work a news release said. Because it is too cold to paint outside at this time of year, each student will be asked to bring a recent photograph of a colorful scene they would like to paint. All sessions will include demonstrations and critiques.
Donahue grew up around the woods, waterways and small towns of central Maine. She studied for five years at the Portland School of Art (now the Maine College of Art) after high school; and received her bachelor of fine arts and did graduate work at American University in Washington, D.C., where she won the Alma Thomas Award in Undergraduate Painting.
Donahue owns Northlight Gallery in Millinocket. Her work may also be seen at Greenhut Galleries and on her website, www.artnorthlight.com.
The cost is $200 for two full days of watercolor classes with Donahue. The class is open to all interested in polishing their watercolor skills. Space is limited so early registration is advised.
