She grew up in Madison graduating from Madison High class of 1941.
In 1946, Doris married her soul mate, Raymond Watson, and the couple resided in Bath to raise their family.
Doris worked as a housekeeper and at Bath Iron Works for a short time before deciding to further her education as a nurse. She graduated from Bath Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She then worked as a RN at Bath Memorial Hospital for many years. Doris had a need to help and a love for children so she decided to take her career to the Hyde Home for the Crippled Children, where she worked until its closing. The Home Health Nursing Agency, now known as CHANS, at the age of 65, was where Doris retired from as the executive director of nursing.
Nursing was a calling for Doris, she never looked at it as a job. Helping people was what she loved to do. She was a “Gentle Soul,” someone who couldn’t do enough for you. She will be sadly missed by all that loved her.
Doris was predeceased by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister.
She leaves behind three children, Ray,
David and BJ; grandchildren, Raymond III, Charles, Matthew, Jennifer and Alex; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and one brother, Daniel.
Visiting hours will be held today, Monday, Feb. 25, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
