SOUTH PORTLAND – For the second time in five years, Chris Todd has been named the top cop in South Portland, winning the police department’s Officer of the Year award for 2012.
Todd joined the South Portland Police Department in 2000 and was last named Officer of the Year in 2008. The award is his first since promotion to detective n 2010. He is assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division.
“Detective Todd is an energetic officer who brings enthusiasm to the job that should be an example to others,” said Police Chief Edward Googins. “He has excelled as an investigator and has cleared several complicated and high profile cases.
“His caring and compassionate demeanor has been noted by his co-workers and victims alike,” said Googins.
Todd was chosen by department supervisors from a list of people named Officer of the Month during the past year. South Portland has 53 police officers. In addition to Todd, two others, Jeff Caldwell and Scott Corbett, have won Officer of the Year multiple times in the past 25 years, according to department spokesman Sgt. Steve Webster.
For the award, Todd will receive two days off with pay, a personalized plaque and an award pin. He will be recognized at the South Portland City Council meeting on March 4.
