PORTLAND – Before enduring a series of long trips, the Maine Red Claws will play one more home game this month, at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Portland Expo.
The Red Claws’ New England rival, the Springfield Armor, will make another visit.
Maine (18-13) has won only three of its last eight games, and all three were against the Armor (9-20). For the season, Maine is 6-1 against Springfield.
The Armor will be a little more rested than expected. Their Saturday night game against the Bakersfield Jam was postponed because of the weekend blizzard.
Bakersfield was able to play its Friday night game in Portland and the Jam, with a league-best record of 20-9, dominated most of the game for a 104-94 win.
The Red Claws have most of their best players back on the roster, including point guard Shelvin Mack, who returned from his short stint with the Philadelphia 76ers (four games, averaging less than two minutes playing time).
Also returned are guard/forward Kris Joseph (waived by the Celtics last month and recently re-signed by the Red Claws) and center Fab Melo, who is back after a couple of games with the Celtics.
Mack, Maine’s first-round draft pick, has averaged 19.7 points in 16 games for the Red Claws. Joseph has averaged 18.2 points, just ahead of Micah Downs (18.1) and Chris Wright (17.5).
After Sunday’s game, the Red Claws will play their next five games on the road — in Texas, Nevada and California. They won’t return to the Expo until March 1.
Today’s promotion features the all-mascot band, the Kastaways, a group that became popular during Portland Sea Dogs games.
