PORTLAND – The blizzard is shutting down the post office.
No U.S. Postal Service offices in Maine will be open Saturday and there won’t be any mail delivery, spokesman Tom Rizzo said late Friday.

Rizzo said the shutdown also applies to all post offices in New Hampshire and Vermont.
Post offices will reopen on Monday and delivery will also resume that day.
Rizzo, who has been with the Postal Service 20 years, said he doesn’t remember the service ever announcing the day before that it would not open its offices or deliver mail.
In some cases, he said, offices have closed early or carriers who had already gone out on their routes were told to return early and he said some offices were closed in New York and New Jersey after superstorm Sandy hit last fall.
“This weather event is an extreme circumstance and it has the potential to be unprecedented,” he said.
