BRUNSWICK — Do you yodel in the shower? Can you tap dance like Gene Kelly? Do you blow a mean horn?
If the answer is “yes” to any of these questions, then the Brunswick Rotary Club is looking for you, and you might just be Brunswick’s 2013 Hometown Idol.
The Rotary will present the 2013 “Hometown Idol” at the Orion Performing Arts Center, 66 Republic Road, on Saturday, April 27, at 7 p.m. Proceeds support a scholarship fund for graduating high school seniors.
Talented residents of Brunswick, Topsham and Harpswell are encouraged to participate. Awards will be presented to the top talent in the areas of vocal solo, vocal ensemble, instrumental solo, instrumental ensemble, dance and a miscellaneous category. Age categories are youth (ages 6 to 12), teen (ages 13 to 18) and adult (ages 19 and older).
“Last year we had a ukulele player, a chorus from Thornton Oaks, high school cheerleaders as well as some wonderful vocalists,” said Hometown Idol Committee Chair Claudia Frost in a news release. “It was a terrific evening of entertainment.”
Winners will be determined by a panel of judges, and the audience. In addition to prizes for each category and age group, one winner will receive a cash award as well as a trophy as they are declared the “2013 Hometown Idol.”
Applications are available at the Brunswick, Topsham and Harpswell Schools, Shaw’s at Cook’s Corner and Riley Insurance, 139 Maine St., as well as by visiting www.brunswickmainerotary.org. Applications are due by April 15.
Tickets for the April show may be purchased from Rotary Club Members or at the door for $12 per person, $10 for children and seniors, or for a $30 family rate.
