Reid Scher, of Windham, has been named executive director of Biddeford-based St. Andre Home, Inc., effective Jan. 2.

Scher holds a bachelor of arts degree from Brooklyn College and a master of social work from New York University. He formerly held positions as director of program services for The Institute for Financial Literacy in South Portland, manager of operations for the New York Council of Accreditation in New York, executive director of Northeast Alternative Services in Auburn, quality improvement specialist for Spurwink Agency in Portland, lecturer at the University of Southern Maine for the social work department and president of the Maine Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, as well as other leadership positions.

St. Andre Home was established in 1940 by the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, known as the Good Shepherd Sisters. It serves mothers with infant children in crisis, through both residential programs with homes in Biddeford, Lewiston and Bangor, as well as outreach programs across the state. In addition, St. Andre Home provides adoption services for birth-mothers who choose to make an adoption plan and also provides international adoption services including home study and post-placement supervisory visits.
