Nickerson Concert

I am looking forward to another opportunity for great entertainment right here in town. The 15th Annual Richard Nickerson Scholarship Concert will take place on Saturday, Jan. 5, at 7 p.m. in the Windham Performing Arts Center at Windham High School. Tickets are only $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors and are available at the door.

The Richard Nickerson Scholarship Committee was formed in 1997 by parents of Windham Chamber Singers students in appreciation of Windham High School Choral Director, Dr. Richard Nickerson. Since its formation, the RNS Committee has awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships to 18 Windham High School graduating seniors pursuing music studies as part of their college experience.

Talented singers from Raymond will be performing including last year’s scholarship recipient Georgia Noonan as well as Grant Dodge, Casey Hutchinson, and Molly Keane-Dryer. They will be performing a wide variety of songs guaranteeing something for everyone and will be joined by Windham’s most talented alumni.

In the event of a snowstorm, the concert will be rescheduled for Sunday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m.

Got Game

Are your kids looking for a way to get together with others for a good old-fashioned game day? A new program will be held at the Raymond Village Library on Sunday, Jan. 13, at 1 p.m. for just that reason. Game Day is for students 8 years and older and will offer an opportunity to learn new games or play some of your old favorites. There is no need to register, just show up. Better yet, bring your friends and plan for a fun afternoon, hanging out and enjoying all kinds of available games. For more information, call the library at 655-4283,

Rabies Clinic

There will be a rabies clinic on Saturday, Jan. 12, from noon until 2 p.m. at Aubuchon Hardware on Route 302. Jordan Bay Veterinarian Hospital will be administering the vaccinations. The cost will be $10 per animal and only cash is accepted. This is a one-year vaccination unless you provide the last three-year certificate. The Town Office staff will also be available to license your dogs at that time. The deadline for licensing is Jan. 31 after which a $25 fine will be initiated.

Amnesty Month

The Raymond Village Library is a wonderful, vital and active library. It is also a small library with a limited budget and only able to contain a certain amount of books for loan. For this reason, it is important that books are returned on the due dates so other patrons can enjoy them. At this time, there are a large number of overdue books missing from the collection. In an effort to retrieve as many books as possible, January has been deemed an amnesty month for all overdue books. This simply means that no matter how long a book or any media belonging to the library has been overdue, there will be no fine or fees collected when the material is returned. Please help the library maintain the complete collection by returning all overdue materials.

Also, please note a change in library hours. Beginning in January, the library will be open on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Also, the library will be open on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Jan. 21, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. If in doubt, simply call the library at 655-4283.
