FREEPORT — Dolores E. Carter Greenleaf, 72, died on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012. She was born in Portland on August 10, 1940 the fourth child of Dewey G. Carter and Isabel Rogers Carter.
Her family moved to Freeport in September 1942.
She attended Freeport Schools and graduated from Freeport High in the class of 1959. After graduating she worked in area shoe factories.
In 1978 she met and married Robert T. Greenleaf III of Westport Island. In 1979 she left working in the shoe factory and got her commercial lobster license and began lobstering with her husband in Westport Island. In the early ’80s they brought their boat to Freeport and have lobstered here since.
She gave up her commercial license in 2008 due to her health.
She and her husband Bob and their little dog Zoe have traveled all over Maine.
She loved animals and had always had them in her life. Dolores and her husband have traveled all over on their snowmobiles. They also loved deer hunting together.
She and Bob and Zoe spent a lot of time at Fort Allen Park in Portland. She loved feeding the birds and doing puzzles.
Besides her husband she is survived by two brothers Charles Carter and his wife Virginia of Freeport Wilbur and his wife Rita of Freeport and four stepchildren; Mike, Robert IV, Sondra and Stella. Several step grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many cousins. She is also survived by her Springer Spaniel Zoe and two cats Liz and Bonnie. Besides her parents she is predeceased by her sister Lottie Miller.
