FREEPORT — Back by popular demand, Will Rhys will perform his one-man rendition of “A Christmas Carol” beginning at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Freeport Factory Stage, 5 Depot St.
Performances will continue that weekend on Friday, Dec.7, at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m., with additional shows the following weekend, Friday, Dec. 14, and Saturday, Dec. 15, at 7:30 p.m.
Every holiday season, people are reminded of how this simple Dickens tale has the power to transcend time and place. In his original adaptation of this immortal classic, veteran Broadway actor Rhys utilizes Dickens’ own thirdperson narrative and plenty of authentic dialogue from the story to present the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge’s journey from the darkness of hurt and anger into the light of redemption and joy.
With lovely background music, and using a bare stage and a minimum of props (a couple of chairs, a stool, a lectern), Rhys evokes a vivid 19th century London and environs: from Scrooge’s counting house to the Cratchit household, from Fezziwig’s party to the “farthest ship at sea,” and a host of other settings.
Audiences will enjoy the characters that Dickens so richly created in this most famous of Christmas stories: Marley’s ghost, the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, the entire Cratchit family, nephew Fred, Mr. Fezziwig, Scrooge’s long-suffering housekeeper, Mrs. Dilbert, and, of course, Scrooge himself.
Tickets are $15; $10 for students and seniors. Thursday’s performance is pay-what-youcan. Tickets can be purchased by calling 370-5340; online at www.freeportfactory.com; in person at any Bull Moose location or at the Freeport Community Center Thrift Shop, 59 Depot St.
The box office opens 60 minutes prior to showtime and the house opens 30 minutes prior to show time.
