He was born in Augusta on May 8, 1925, the son of Albion & Frieda Emerson. He graduated Waterville High School and later Thomas College of Business. Richard served during World War II as a radioman aboard the Destroyer USS Haraden. He worked for several paper companies, including Scott Paper Company, and National Blank Book. Richards’ occupation for most of his life was working for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) as a regional manager for logistics, where his last assignments were in the U.S. Western district and Korea.
An avid reader and lover of puzzles; he always had a pun for every occasion which would have his kin rolling their eyes or rolling with laughter. For he believed a pun was its own “reword”. A talented artist, he loved to draw and whittle, play cribbage and take the family on long weekend drives. He treasured all moments with his family.
Richard is predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Helen Yeaton Emerson. He is survived by his three beautiful daughters: Dr. Margaret Emerson Helming and her husband Bill of Acton, MA and Boothbay, ME; Leslie Emerson Kalisz and her husband Steve of West Bath; and Jeanne Emerson of Topsham, and nine grandchildren. Richard is survived by his brother Wallace Emerson, of Waterville and is predeceased by a brother, Gerald Emerson.
A Muneral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 17, 2012 in St. John the Baptist Church, Pleasant Street in Brunswick. A summer time interment will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in Belgrade, the date to be announced.
