He grew up in West Bath, and graduated from Morse High School in 1953. Following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. In 1955 he married the love of his life, Donna E. Sutherland of Bath and they made their home in Bath. He worked at the B.I.W. for 40 years retiring in 1995.
He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter & fisherman. He also enjoyed his boat the “Blue Eyes” and their cottage on the New Meadows River. He took great pride in maintaining and keeping the landscaping of his family home in West Bath.
He was for many years, a member of the B.I.W. bowling league and was a past Master of Solar Star FAM (formerly Solar Lodge) and a member of the Bath Lodge of Elks. In recent years he was a member of the Bath Senior Citizens where he proved to be a very proficient Bocce player, and greatly enjoyed the time there with his bocce friends.

First Parish Church in
Brunswick.
He was predeceased by his parents and sisters Dorothy Owens and Ethel Nicole and his cousin Grace Waterman.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by his beloved daughter and son-in-law Kristen and Ara Basil and his grandchildren Andrew and Talene Basil of Armonk, N.Y. A very special nephew and niece, Stephen and Frances Lyden. As well as several additional nieces & nephews, his many friends and wonderful caring neighbors. He will be greatly missed by all.
Visiting hours are to be held on Friday Nov 9th from 5-7pm. A masonic service will be held at 7pm. Funeral services will be on Saturday Nov 10th at 2pm at Desmond Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
