SCARBOROUGH — Anna “Dolly” E. D’Agostino, 84, of Brunswick and formerly of New Haven, CT, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. She was the wife of the late Frank M. D’Agostino who died Sept. 3, 1983.
Anna was born on Aug. 21, 1928, in New Haven, a daughter of the late Alphonse and Philomena (Apuzzo) Espari. She grew up in New Haven, attending local area schools and graduated from Hillhouse High School. After graduating high school, Dolly worked in her father’s business, Interstate Manufacturing. She married her husband Frank on April 14, 1952.
She worked as a secretary for CHA Donald F. Smith & Associates and then Blue Cross & Blue Shield before retiring in 1987. Shortly after retirement she moved to Florida and then again to Texas to help her daughter raise her grandchildren. She finally moved to Brunswick, with her sister, Maria, about six years ago. The two sisters were inseparable and spent many adventurous years in Maine.
While in Connecticut, Dolly was a very active member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Hamden. She enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts, which included needlepoint and knitting, and playing Bingo with her friends at Creekside Village. Dolly even learned to use a computer after her 80th birthday. Her favorite pastime though was taking care of her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her four daughters, Frances D’Agostino of Hamden, CT, Susan Choate and her husband, Mark, of Sugar Land, TX, Michelle Thatcher and her husband, Mark, of Andover, CT, and Lynn D’Agostino and her partner, Nancy Drolet, of Freeport. She also leaves her two cherished grandsons, Matthew and Steven Choate, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Maria D’Amicis and her husband, Albert.
A Celebration of Life for Dolly will be held on Nov. 18 at Creekside Village, 50 Baribeau Drive, Brunswick. Service to be held at 1 p.m. with family and friends.
Burial will be on Nov. 19, 2012, at 11 a.m., at Beaverdale Cemetery, New Haven. She will be buried with her husband, Frank. A reception for the family will follow.
