Principles and purpose

Maine needs leaders of principle and purpose to represent us in our Legislature. When I look at a candidate who will represent me, I always look at their background and take an assessment of what they have already accomplished in their private and professional lives to know how capable they will be as my representative.

Ruth Summers is a woman who is already comfortable with leadership roles as when she served as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve with various important duties in the United States and Southeast Asia. As a resident of Scarborough, Ruth is now a mom and a small business owner and has been actively involved in education in leadership roles as an executive director and president.

Where are voters in Senate District 6; Gorham, Scarborough and Westbrook going to find a more qualified candidate to serve us in the Senate? I am very proud to give Ruth my support and encourage other voters to support her candidacy also.

Volk for State House

Our state and country need more true leaders like Amy Volk. As our state representative Amy has created a fabric of accomplishments woven with hard work, insight, resolution and integrity. Since taking office in December of 2010 Amy has led or co-sponsored legislation in advocacy for the lobsterman, tax reform to benefit seniors, education, MTA accountability, vital Scarborough road access, minimum wage law clarity, interstate health insurance options, minimum wage law regarding the disabled, anti crime, the attraction of new businesses to Maine and the expansion of existing business and development of recognizable “Maine Brand” products, and more.

Amy Volk is a Maine native, mother of 4, a Christian who sincerely cares about the people she serves and has fought with tenacity for our quality of life, citizen rights and better government. We need more Amy Volks on a local and national level who will continue to walk the walk for all of us.

No better person

I am writing today to express my support for Amy Volk in House District 127. I met Amy a few years ago through our children in school and we have become friends over the years. I have always been impressed with Amy’s personality and drive and when she ran for the legislature last time around I couldn’t think of a better person to represent us in Augusta.

During her tenure in Augusta she has surpassed my expectations. She was part of the team that passed welfare reform, pension reform and healthcare reform all in a bipartisan manner. Those three bill are quite the accomplishment on their own but Amy didn’t stop there, she sponsored legislation that helped Bayley’s Campground so that they were able to stay in business.

Amy is not only an impressive mother, business woman and community leader, she has proven that she deserves another term in Augusta representing the people of Scarborough.

I urge you to vote for Amy Volk on Nov. 6.

Volk for District 127

I choose Amy Volk as candidate for re-election for the office of House Representative for District 127 in Scarborough. Amy acquired valuable experience dealing with local and state legislation when she served in her first term as House representative, taking office in December, 2010. In her two-year term, Amy gained respect from the public as well as lawmakers and government officials.

Amy is pro-business – she has an impactful track record of initiating and supporting legislation aimed at leveraging Maine’s resources, as evidenced by her lead sponsorship of L.D. 323. This act, in part, encourages attraction of new business and facilitates expansion of existing business. As a small business owner herself, Amy understands the hardships facing our community’s business leaders and is willing and motivated to strengthen our business environment.

Impressive legislative and business record notwithstanding, I most admire Amy for her selfless volunteer work, generosity, intelligence and dedication to good cause. She attended Maine schools and graduated with distinction from the University of Maine with a degree in Human Development. This has served her well as she puts many hours into making lives better for our youth through educational outreach, community involvement and good old-fashioned hands-on hard work.

With proud enthusiasm, I support Amy Volk for re-election to House Representative for District 127.

Volk on Nov. 6

When you have young children as my husband and I do, providing a strong education for them is a top priority. I need many partners to help ensure that my kids are part of a vibrant, safe and effective school system: teachers, administrators, fellow parents and community members and political representatives. I feel fortunate to count Representative Amy Volk among my partners in providing a strong public education for my son and daughter and for yours too. Amy supports programs that help prepare our children for life in the 21st century, encourage high standards for our teachers and preserve state funding for our schools. Not only is Amy a strong advocate for us in Augusta, she is everywhere in Scarborough! Amy is personally accessible, participating in all kinds of community, education, theater and sports events, as well as hosting constituent hours at the Library. Through her weekly email updates, Amy keeps us informed of current legislation and local events like no other representative I can recall. Amy recognizes that part of implementing classroom learning is to live what you believe; to lead by doing, to make your voice heard, to bring genuine support to those activities that matter to you. Please join me in voting for Amy Volk as our District 127 representative and help keep a strong partner in education and community on our side.

Deeply caring

I am writing to offer my wholehearted support for Amy Volk’s re-election to the Maine House of Representatives, District 127.

My family has known Amy Volk and her family for nearly 12 years. During this time, Amy has taken on an active role in the lives of her children and of the community. Whether she is attending a school function or volunteering in the community, Amy has shown how deeply she cares about the people of Scarborough.

Amy Volk holds strong family values and a view that mirrors that of most of the constituents in our district. As our House Representative, she will represent the people of the district honorably and ensure that our voices are heard in the state capital.

Amy Volk has a common-sense approach and the drive needed to make a difference in our district and state. I cannot stress enough our confidence in Amy Volk. I encourage you to join me in voting for Amy in November.

Voting is a gift

Our forefathers gave us a gift and responsibility with which we often over look. The right to vote is not a chore, it is a gift. The right to choose who will represent us is a responsibility which we should all take more seriously. It seems that an R or a D in front of one’s name is more important than what that person represents and what good they can do for our town, state and country. Amy Volk has represented us in District 127 this last term. Her life’s exposures of daughter, wife, mother, neighbor and business women has given us a representative that serves each of us well. If you take time to look at the legislation she has sponsored in her term you will find that she has worked to strengthen and better our lives now and in the future.

Jobs, jobs and more jobs is what we need to turn our economy around. Amy’s currently holds a position with the Committee on Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development in the legislature. The business leaders in the state that we have had a chance to speak with have spoken very highly of the work Amy has done in the committee. We look forward to having her represent our community in the future. Amy, thank you for your service.

Can cut through bickering

For District 6’s State Senate election, I’m learning all I can.

I’ve decided I’m voting Jim Boyle. Here’s why.

I’ve learned Jim stands for what my friends and neighbors and I value: good jobs, affordable health care, and education investment for Maine’s children.

And I’ve learned Jim’s a small business owner. He works side- by-side with five employees. So he knows how to create good jobs, and he knows why good health care is key. Jim’s work is in scientific consulting, so he knows why we should invest in educating our kids, too.

I’ve met with Jim and believe that he can cut through partisan bickering, and will have Augusta “roll up its sleeves” to create pragmatic economic growth. I like that.

I also like that Jim’s experience is real. He’s worked with loggers, landowners, and mill operators. He’s worked with developers, land trusts, and utilities. All of this is real-world experience. Real Maine people, real Maine companies, and real Maine issues. That’s Jim Boyle.

That’s why Jim’s running. He knows how to grow good jobs in Maine, and why to invest in Maine kids, so they’re ready for those good jobs. So Jim’s running for State Senate in District 6 – to work hard and to help move Maine forward. That’s why I’m voting Jim Boyle. I hope you do, too.
