Bill traveled around a great deal as a child, with his father in the military. They settled down in the Woolwich area and he attended Morse High School, Class of 1965. After graduating he enlisted in the US Air Force and married the love of his life three years later.
He was employed by Pierce Marine and later at The State of Maine, Central Fleet Management, retiring after 25 years of service.
Bill was an avid sportsman and enjoyed being with nature. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, four wheeling, feeding the birds and playing cards with the guys. He enjoyed Sunday afternoon football and spending time with his family. He loved his grandchildren and they were his world, his everything.
He was predeceased by both of his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cheryl A. (Brown) Pratt of Farmingdale; his two children: Michael L Pratt and wife Danielle of Fryeburg, and Suzanne L Gilbert and husband Joseph of Farmingdale: five brothers; Lewis Pratt and wife Peggy of California, James Pratt and significant other Cheryl Page of Ohio, Daniel Pratt and wife Ann Marie of Windham, Fred Pratt and wife Sema of Richmond and David Pratt and wife Betsy of Boothbay; three sisters: Francis Crawford and husband Donald of Brunswick, Paula Gustafson and husband Robert of Brunswick and Diane Trott and husband Phil of Phippsburg; four grandchildren: Molly, Abigail, Aubrey, Landon and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday,
October 21 from 1-4pm at Staples Funeral Home in Gardiner, services will be held on Monday, October 22 at 11am also at Staples and burial will be held at the Maine Veterans Cemetery (Mt. Vernon Road, new section) at 1pm following the service.
A special thank you to all the doctors and nurses at MaineHealth Cardiology in Portland and Augusta Family Medicine in Augusta who gave us 15 more years with him after his first heart attack, to the Gardiner Paramedics who did all that they could do, Victor and his staff at Staples for their patience and understanding and our special friend and neighbor Pam Brown for all the help, love, support and advise over the years.
