BATH — In a program they call “Bath Girls Who Write Books,” Bath natives and Maine authors Morgan Callan Rogers and Elizabeth Peavey will discuss their writing careers and how growing up in Bath has influenced their work on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 6:30 p.m., at the Patten Free Library, 33 Summer St.
According to a news release, Rogers and Peavey grew up right around the corner from each other in the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s. And while they did not know each other as girls (there’s a small age gap), their worlds intersected in myriad ways — from the shops and stores that lined Front Street to their schooling to the summer community of Quaker Point to the people they both knew — and had a huge impact on who they are and what they write about. They’ll talk about their childhoods, how they (miraculously) found their way as writers and how they use their backgrounds in their work. A short reading by both authors and a Q&A will conclude the program.
Peavey is a prizewinning Maine writer. Her one-woman show, “My Mother’s Clothes Are Not My Mother,” premiered in September 2011to sold-out houses and has been touring Maine ever since. She is the author of “Glorious Slow Going: Maine Stories of Art, Adventure and Friendship”; “Outta My Way: An Odd Life Lived Loudly”; and “Maine & Me,” which was awarded the Maine Literary Award for Best Mainethemed Book.
Rogers is the author of “Red Ruby Heart in a Cold Blue Sea.” She has been a librarian, a journalist, an actress, an editor and a teacher. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in English and a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from the University of Southern Maine. “Red Ruby Heart” is her debut novel.
