FREEPORT — Freeport Historical Society will offer several events during October, beginning with the ongoing exhibit “Buttons, Rum & Rakes: Freeport’s Mercantile Past” at 45 Main St., available for viewing Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A $3 donation is suggested.

The third annual Barns and Quilts Tour will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The tour will begin at Cottonweeds, 451 U.S. Route 1.

Participants will visit four historic barns coupled with period antique quilts and learn about both iconic forms from local experts. Banjo music, cider and doughnuts and a contemporary quilt display and tools from Lie-Nielson conclude the day.

Tickets are $30 per person and reservations are required.

On Sunday the 37th annual Pettengill Farm Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring workshops on subjects from beekeeping to wood stacking, poetry to heirloom apple identification, house tours, geocaching, food, and horse and oxen demonstrations. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children with a $20 family limit.

The third annual Dry Stone Wall Building Workshop with master stonewaller Chris Tanguay will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13 and 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tanguay teaches the basics to this traditional trade on the first day. For those who join on the second day, Tanguay will teach more advanced techniques, literally “building” on the first day of the workshop. Lunch is included.

The cost for Saturday or Sunday is $65; for both days, the cost is $110.
