SANFORD – On a night when a football team finds out who its true fans are, Bonny Eagle traveled to Sanford to slug it out in the rain at the Spartans’ Cobb Stadium. The hardy souls who huddled under umbrellas or simply braved the sometimes heavy downpour saw the visiting Scots grind out a 14-6 win.

Scots sophomore quarterback Zach Dubiel scored on the first play of the second quarter, a keeper around the left end from five yards out. Bonny Eagle scored again halfway through the third quarter when Riley Murphy headed left again and rumbled 46 yards into the end zone. Murphy, a senior captain, was the workhorse in the game, with 37 carries for 151 of Bonny Eagle’s 185 rushing yards. The Scots had 273 total yards on offense.

Late in the game, the Spartans realized they could move the ball in the air, and marched downfield, with QB Cody Mooney eventually connecting with Alex Shain in the end zone for a 26-yard passing touchdown, their only score. The Spartans generated 140 yards total offense, with Shain accounting for 52 rushing yards on 13 carries.
