Lacrosse Anyone?
U.S. Lacrosse announced that 102 teams nationwide have been awarded development grants through the 2012 First Stick Program and one of them is The GNG Patriot Lacrosse Club.
First Stick Program grant recipients now begin a two-year partnership with U.S. Lacrosse, during which time the national organization will help to develop a self-sustaining lacrosse program that operates by U.S. Lacrosse’s national standards and best practices. One of the program’s primary goals is to help break down the barriers to participation by providing free and/or discounted resources to new teams.
President Glen Mercier of the GNG Patriot Lacrosse Club is really excited about the grant. Some of the benefits the club will receive include 36 sets of lacrosse gear, an automatic defibrillator, training for coaches, invitation to the U.S. Lacrosse convention, etc.
Girls or boys from Gray and New Gloucester in grades 3 to 8 will be able to join the club and play lacrosse right after the basketball season. Gray Recreation will have an Introduction to Lacrosse Clinic on Nov. 2 for children to check out the sport and see if it interests them.
Call Mercier at 926-4267 for more information or www.gngpatriotlacrosse.com.
