FREEPORT – Maine Senior Guide will host the Southern Maine Senior Expo on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Freeport.
Thirty-eight vendor booths will offer information on everything from senior communities to walk-in baths and insurance products. AAA is providing a driving school from 8 a.m. -noon ($15), and CHANS Home Health Care will hold a free flu shot clinic all day. Afternoon activities include an antiques appraisal walk-in clinic ($5 per item to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association) and free carriage rides around the park.
Starting at 10 a.m., speakers in the nearby Old Town Hall, located next to the hotel, will give detailed information on topics from senior sexuality to questions about home care or joint replacements.
Some of the speakers’ topics will include: “What is assisted living all about?” Louise Everett, Thornton Hall and Elizabeth Simonds of Scarborough Terrace; “Eldercare transitions and the complex emotions that accompany them,” Lea Rust and Peter Baker, social workers, Sedgewood Commons; “Joint Replacement and your lifestyle,” Dr. Bruce Gomberg, Parkview Hospital; “Estate Planning,” Griffin Leach of Standen Law; “What will your legacy be?” Harland Goodwin, planned giving director, Northern New England Division of the Salvation Army; “10 things to look for while looking for a care facility,” Bri Johnston and Ruth Daigle of Cape Memory Care; “The new reverse mortgage,” with Jerry Jalbert of Reliant Mortgage Co.; and many more.
Expo hours are from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Admission is free and free parking is provided. The expo site at the hotel is only one block from downtown Freeport.
