WATERVILLE — Inland Hospital is laying off 10 workers and closing the hospital’s Walmart clinic, hospital president John Dalton said today.
The hospital eliminated 28 positions, but 18 of them were either vacant or restructured during the budget reduction, Dalton said.
Dalton said that national trends of declining numbers of inpatients and a deterioration of payments from major providers have hit the small hospital, which has about 600 employees, hard.
The hospital’s scaled-back budget has been approved by the board of trustees, and also includes non-staff cost savings of roughly $1 million, which was achieved by a variety of factors, including more favorable purchasing contracts, less discretionary equipment, and fewer employee recognition events.
