BRUNSWICK — Scott Alan McNeill, 56, passed away Friday, August 31, 2012, surrounded by his family after as short but courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born in Bath on November 22, 1955 to the late Gerald P McNeill and Marlene (Christopher) McNeill. Scott graduated from Morse High School Class of 1974. In August 1974 he entered the United States Navy and served on both the Oceanographic Ships and Nuclear Submarines. He would often talk about the fun times he had in Israel, Italy and other Mediterranean ports of call. He left military service in 1981 settling back in Bath. He worked for a short time at BIW and Casco Cable TV and for 18 years at Gediman’s Appliance in Bath. He thought a career change would be in order, and he became a rural carrier for the Brunswick Post Office.

On May 18, 1996, Scott married his high school sweetheart and soulmate Susan (DiEdwardo) McNeill, five years later on April 2, 2001 they welcomed, Scott’s only child, Jeremiah McNeill, into the world. Scott loved spending time with Jeremiah, or “J” as he was known to us, teaching him his love for sports, fishing and gardening. Scott supervised as “J” planted his first garden in July of 2012. They could always be found cheering for the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins on game days. Scott had a passion for the great outdoors, being on his motorcycle this summer meant the world to him.

Scott was a member of the American Legion in Bath and a life member of the American Fishing Club.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Susan and his son, “j” both of Bath, his stepdaughters Melissa Gray and her husband Bob of WA and Allisyn Gray and her husband Jared of Brunswick; his mother, Marlene McNeill of Bath; sister Jerilene Chessman of Bath; brothers, Shawn McNeill and Larry McNeill of Bath; nephews, Cory McNeill, Elyah McNeill and Jake McNeill; nieces, Jacelyn McNeill, Amaya and Kiera McNeill and Janet Rezendes; uncles, Brad Christopher and his wife Judy of NH, Neil Christopher and his wife Gail of CT, and Aunt Nani Hiedt and her husband Paul of NY.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 from 4:00 – 6:00pm at the David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High Street, Bath.
