STANDISH – According to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, mosquitoes found in Standish have tested positive for the West Nile nirus.

According to Standish Town Manager Gordon Billington, the mosquitoes were found on Portland Water District property near the Otter Ponds off Route 35 near Sebago Lake Village. He received notice from the state at about 11:45 a.m. Thursday.

Billington urged residents to take precautions while outside. Using bug spray and wearing long appropriate clothing especially during the evening are recommended. He also says people should stay vigilant for symptoms of the disease, which has been particularly serious this summer throughout the country.
