Meet the author ?of ‘The Lifeboat’
The Freeport Community Library will be welcoming Charlotte Rogan, the author of the new book “The Lifeboat,” on Wednesday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m.
“The Lifeboat” is the first book for Rogan, who lives in Connecticut. It takes place in the summer of 1914 with Europe on the brink of war, but Grace Winter’s future finally seems secure as she and her new husband set sail for New York, where she hopes to win over a disapproving and status-conscious mother-in-law. When a mysterious explosion sinks their ship, Grace is thrust into a lifeboat by a quick-witted crewmember, who climbs in after her even though the boat is already filled beyond capacity. Over the course of three perilous weeks, the lifeboat passengers plot, scheme, gossip and console one another while questioning their deepest assumptions about goodness, humanity and God
Every week, the library offers a read-aloud story time for toddlers, pre-schoolers and their caregivers.
The story times are on Tuesday mornings. There are three different sessions. At 9:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m., there separate 15-minute story times for kids with shorter attention spans. At 10 a.m., there is a longer 30-minute story time for pre-schoolers who are available to pay attention a bit longer.
Summer library hours are: Mondays and Wednesdays 11:30 a.m.-8 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.; Fridays 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
