The Tony Award-winning musical runs until Aug. 25 at Pickard Theater on the Bowdoin College campus, 1 Bath Road. Tickets are available online at msmt.org, by phone at 725-8769, and at the Pickard box office. Ticket prices range from $36 to $59. Based on the novel by Bradford Ropes and the 1933 film adaptation, “42nd Street” is a spectacle of tap dancing, familiar tunes and memorable characters. The 1980 Broadway production, directed by Gower Champion and orchestrated by Philip J. Lang, won the Tony Award for best musical and became a long-running hit. Recognizable songs include “We’re In the Money,” “Keep Young and Beautiful,” “Dames,” “I Only Have Eyes for You,” “Shuffle Off to Buffalo” and “Lullaby of Broadway.”

Charles Repole directs this production, with choreography by Michael Lichtefeld. The musical director is Jason Wetzel. The cast includes Broadway veterans, MSMT regulars and others making their Maine State debuts.

Alessa Neeck was part of the original Broadway company of “White Christmas.” Patrick Ryan Sullivan joins the theater for the first time after playing the role on Broadway and the national tour. The cast also includes theater veteran Karen K. Edissi and Tyler Hanes, whose Broadway credits include “A Chorus Line” and “Hairspray.”

Maine State Music Theatre continues its pay-what-you-can tradition for the matinee and evening performances on Friday. The box office opens at 10 a.m.
