FREEPORT — Final performances of Freeport Players’ production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Mikado” will run this weekend with performances tonight and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
A release from Freeport Players describes the production as “a comic satire that takes the audience to the fictional Japanese village of Titipu, where Ko-Ko (played by Jake Junkins) has been condemned to die for the capital offense of flirting. He must die by his own hand, as he is also the Lord High Executioner.”
“As if this were not enough,” the release continues, “Ko-Ko is betrothed to his ward, Yum-Yum (Laura Collard), who has fallen in love with Nanki-Poo (Jon Libby), who has run away from his father’s court to escape marriage to the comically unattractive Katisha. Ko-Ko fast-talks and schemes his way out of these and a series of other comic twists and turns.”
Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
