BOWDOINHAM — The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an overnight burglary at a Bowdoinham convenience store.

Sheriff Joel Merry said burglars entered the Bowdoinham Country Store, 54 River Road, sometime the night or early morning hours Thursday and emptied all the cash from the register. They also made off with several cartons of cigarettes.

Store employees reported the burglary when the store opened at 6 a.m.

Wednesday night’s break-in is the second incident involving a local business this week.

The front section of the Town Landing Restaurant, which includes a general store, was destroyed when a one-ton Chevrolet pickup truck crashed through the wall Wednesday afternoon. The truck’s brakes failed. No injuries were reported.

Merry said the burglars – there appears to have been more than one suspect involved – entered through a section of the store that is undergoing renovation.

He would not say how much cash was stolen because the break-in remains under investigation.

Merry said the Bowdoinham Countyry Store has been burglarized three times in recent months.

State police charged two teenagers in connection with a burglary that took place at the store in 2011 – he did not know the date – and the Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate a break-in that took place at the store in September.
