MORE THAN 60 students received GED certificates or high school diplomas during a Merrymeeting Adult Education graduation ceremony on June 12 at Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham.
Merrymeeting Adult Education recognized an additional 17 students for completing its certified nursing assistant (CNA) program.
SEVENTEEN STUDENTS graduated from Merrymeeting Adult Education’s certified nursing assistant (CNA) program on June 12 at Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham.
The CNA graduates completed a 180-hour course and passed a skills and knowledge test administered by the state of Maine. The graduates are now eligible to work at nursing homes, hospitals and home health agencies, where they can assist patients with activities of daily living and provide bedside care under the supervision of a register nurse.
During the June 12 ceremony, Diana McCain, director of Merrymeeting Adult Education, welcomed those attending and introduced Brad Smith, superintendent of School Administrative District 75, and Paul Perzanoski, superintendent of the Brunswick School Department.
The superintendents welcomed the students, family and friends, congratulated the graduates and spoke about their experiences as it relates to adult education.
McCain also presented teacher recognition awards and recognized several volunteers.
Two students, Sara Myers and Rachel Keeney, spoke.
Walter Ridlon of Central Maine Community College awarded the Courage to Grow Award to Noelle Bouchard, along with a leather portfolio and college scholarship.
Roberta Lucas, CNA instructor, and Michael Myers, community education coordinator, awarded certified nursing assistant certificates to the well deserving CNA students.
McCain and Paul Elisha, academic counselor, awarded diplomas to the GED and diploma graduates.
