Hazel Marie Griffin was born on Feb 9, 1979 to Michael and Kathleen (Hart) Griffin in Brunswick ME. From the start Hazel was a fighter. She was diagnosed with Congenital Heart Defects as a newborn, and this would affect the rest of her life. Throughout her childhood Hazel had many opportunities to give up, but never did. She was one of the first recipients of the Fontan Procedure, had many open heart surgeries, and plenty of illness. For someone who wasn’t supposed to see her late teenager years, Hazel was able to graduate from High School and attend college. After graduating from Central Florida Institute, she was certified as a Cardiovascular Technician and Phlebotomist.
Hazel also had a kind and generous disposition. Many family and friends can attest that no matter what they had done in the past, Hazel was there for them. She didn’t care what others thought; if you were a good person at heart, Hazel would go to bat for you again and again.
She understood more than most that living was for today, you may not be here tomorrow. This feeling of mortality ruled most of her life decisions.
Hazel was predeceased by her father,
Michael SR, in 2004 and her infant son,
James, in 2007.

Kathy and her husband Mark Christy, her brother Michael JR and his wife Nikki and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
True to her spirit, one of the last things Hazel said to her brother, before being admitted to the hospital was, “Tell Nikki I’m sorry we didn’t get more time in, I’ve felt like crap all week”. We miss you Hazel, and we know we are going to for a long time. Thank you for fighting so hard to gives all those extra years and memories!
