BATH — Marguerite Vivian Small, 92, of Washington Street died Thursday, July 12, 2012 peacefully in her sleep at her home.

She was born March 18, 1920 in Townley, Alabama, the daughter of Vivian Colby and Cleveland Ulysses Brown.

She graduated from Morse High School and was a member of the class of ’38 and she graduated from Westbrook Junior College in 1940. After college, Peg worked at Bath Iron Works in the Personnel Department. There she met her husband Donald N. Small who she married in 1949 and had three children, Donald N. Small Jr., Joseph Colby Small and Mary Eleanor Small.

Peg spent most of her life volunteering for local organizations. She was a long time member and former President of the Bath Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Grace Episcopal Church Vestry and Doers. For many years, Peg was a regular volunteer at the Bath Memorial Hospital Coffee Shop. When she wasn’t volunteering, she was their most regular patron.

Peg was active in local Republican politics serving many years as treasurer of the Bath Republican City Committee. She frequently hosted Republican fundraisers and particularly enjoyed helping Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins. She was the number one campaign worker for her daughter Mary.

Peg used to love to play golf with her good friend Mamie Guild and enjoyed traveling with Mamie and Janet Bussey. She also enjoyed weekly bridge games. Because of the home care she received for the past two years, Peg was able to remain in her home on Washington Street after a debilitating fall and surgery. She was fortunate to have wonderful nurses; first from CHANS and most recently her caregivers were Laurie Small and Donna Rice Wallace.
