WISCASSET — Herald M. Smith, 92, of Gardiner Road died Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.
He was born in Kewanee, Illinois on November 15, 1919, a son of Joe Lewis and Florence (Whittle) Smith.
On February 26, 1955 he married Jane McGrath. He was employed as a supervisor for a government agency.
Although he only had an 8th grade education, he completed the New York Times crossword puzzle every day.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jane M. Smith on March 9, 2001.
He is survived by two sons, John W. Smith of Walpole and Stephen G. Smith of Dresden, three daughters, Sharon Avers of Pennsylvania, Ruth Ann Spies of Arizona and Betty Jean Stoner of Virginia, one granddaughter, Sarah E. Glasser of Wyoming, two grandsons, six granddaughters, nine great grandsons and eight great granddaughters.
A graveside service was held at 10 AM on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset with military honors. Arrangements were by Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath. Condolences may be made online at www.Daiglefuneralhome.com.
