BRUNSWICK — A 20-year-old Brunswick man was charged with domestic violence assault and obstructing the report of a crime Wednesday night after police say he choked and “head-butted” his 61-year-old aunt at their Harpswell Road home.
Police took Jacob Harrington, 20, of 72 Harpswell Road, to Cumberland County Jail, where he was held on $1,000 bail, Deputy Chief Marc Hagan of the Brunswick Police Department said Thursday.
Police responded to the home just after 11:30 p.m. Wednesday for a report of an “unprovoked attack” by Harrington.
The man allegedly came home intoxicated at about 11 p.m., “grabbed his aunt around the neck, choked her, pushed her against the wall, head-butted her and overturned furniture,” Hagan said. “When she tried to call the police, he (allegedly) disconnected the phone lines and took her cellphone.”
The woman left the home with her mother, but told police the two returned after they thought Harrington was asleep.
While police drove Harrington to Cumberland County Jail in Portland, he allegedly began spitting in the cruiser and tried to strike his head on the cage, Hagan said, so another officer responded and placed a “spit hood on him.”
Harrington sustained minor cuts to his head.
