BATH — Raymond Joseph Cote, 71, of West Street died Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. He was born in Manchester, New Hampshire on July 30, 1940, a son of Robert J. and Yvonne (Pepin) Cote.
He attended New Hampshire schools and Catholic school in Canada. He graduated in the Class of 1957 at Somersworth High School in New Hampshire and entered the U.S. Navy in July of 1957. He was stationed on many bases across the country and overseas including the Azores and Morocco. He served during the Vietnam War receiving 2 Good Conduct Awards and retired October 1, 1979 as a Navy Counselor Chief. On December 15, 1987 he married Marilynne “Lynne” Griffin. He was employed at the Brunswick Naval Base at the Flight Physiology Dept. as the Civilian Flight Engineer operating the base altitude chamber and at The Supervisor of Ships in Bath as a QA Inspector retiring after 35 years of government service. In 2006 Ray was the recipient of a heart transplant by Brigham & Women’s Hospital and was an active advocate of the Donate Life effort.
He was a member of the Bath Lodge of Elks, a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post 21 in Bath and a lifetime member of the VFW in Lisbon.
He enjoyed playing pool where he was State Director of the Valley National Eight Ball Association for 21 years. He enjoyed his trips to Quebec, Canada and Las Vegas for pool tournaments. He loved spending time with his family, many friends, his two special dogs, Beau and MaGoo and just loving life. He was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots fan.
He is survived by his wife, Marilynne L. “Lynne” Griffin of Bath, one son, David Cote and his wife Francee of Tennessee, two stepsons, Ronald Griffin and his wife Beth of Georgia and Bill Griffin and his wife Shilo of Pennsylvania, two daughters, Denise Brown and her husband Michael of New Jersey and Jeannine Clark and her husband Rod of Tennessee, one stepdaughter, Tammy Nicholson and her husband Mark of Lewiston, seven grandchildren, Hayly, R.J., Dakota, Ashley, Chayse, Ryan and Lucas.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the New Auburn Social Club, 7 Second Street, New Auburn with a gathering of family and friends to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to New England Organ Bank, 60 First Ave., Waltham, MA 02451.
