WISCASSET — Arthur R. Douglass Jr., 76 passed away peacefully at his home on July 9, 2012 with his family at his side. He was born in Bath on November 3, 1935, the son of Catherine and Arthur Douglass Sr., After attending Bath schools, Arthur enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1956, after which he worked for 40 years at Bath Iron Works. He was a lifetime member of the Elks and an avid fan of New England sports teams. Arthur also enjoyed playing the guitar and attending bluegrass festivals. Most importantly, he loved his family and took great joy in family gatherings; he included his much loved Labrador Retrievers as members of his family.

He is predeceased by his parents and sister, Beverly “Betsy” Robinson.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Cindy Douglass; his children, Lawrence Durrell and his wife Mary, Kirk Douglass and his wife Vicki, Sharon L. Douglass and her long-time boyfriend Peter Small, Karen Rooney and her husband Terry, and Jerry Douglass and his long-time girlfriend, Tamara Sloan; his step-children, Guy Meister and his wife Melissa, Gus Meister and girlfriend Tracy Sullivan; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer, Matthew, Justin, Ashley, Marc, Steven, Mary Kate, Sean and Jaline; 3 great grandchildren, Nia, Levi and Jodie; his stepmother, Fran Douglass; his half-sisters, Jackie Turner and Nancy Carvill; and faithful companions Dakota and Meika, his Labrador Retrievers.

Visiting hours will be held from 4-8pm, Friday July 13, 2012 at David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath. A Memorial Service will be held at 11am Saturday, July 14th at Bath United Church of Christ, Congregational, 150 Congress Ave., Bath. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Old Brunswick Rd. Entrance, Bath. Family and friends are invited to share in a potluck Celebration of Life after services at the Douglass’s home, 115 Dorr Rd., Wiscasset.
