Honors will be presented in the following categories: Business of the Year (large, small and nonprofit), New Business Venture Award, Rising Star — Young Professional’s Award, Educator of the Year Award, Creative Economy Champion, Workplace Wellness Champion, Joshua L. Chamberlain Award, Citizen of the Year Award, and Harry C. Crooker Lifetime Achievement Award.
All chamber members are eligible for nomination, as well as citizens from any of the chamber’s 16-member towns. To be selected as Business of the Year, nominees must demonstrate business growth and improvement, good financial health, quality customer service, overall excellence in the marketplace, and community contributions.
The New Business Venture Award will be presented to a new business (or an old business with new ownership) whose doors have been open less than two years and embodies a community attitude and “can do” spirit. Overall excellence in the marketplace, community involvement and chamber membership are also contributing factors.
The Rising Star — Young Professional’s Award is for that guy or gal, 40ish or below, that stands out for their work ethic, community involvement, high-energy level, and devotion to success. Owning or starting a company, association, or club is a plus but not required.
The Creative Economy Champion is a new award for 2012 and will be presented to the individual or organization that best exemplifies the creative economy in the Mid-coast. Nominees will be accepted from all genres — dance, theatre, art, music, etc.
The Workplace Wellness Champion is also a new award for 2012. The organization selected for this award will have a proven, innovative track record that shows positive employee health results from their employer sponsored wellness program.
One of our longtime chamber awards, the Joshua L. Chamberlain Award, is presented to the individual whose activities have served to build upon the close relationship and understanding existing between the military and civilian components represented in the chamber’s 16-town region. Any military or civilian member is eligible. This award will be presented on Nov. 8 at a special military appreciation luncheon at the Maine Maritime Museum (see the chamber’s community calendar for registration information).
Our Citizen of the Year Award will be presented to the person in our region who has an exemplary community service record in one or more of the chamber’s towns. The award recognizes an individual who, through his or her unselfish commitment to the community, embodies the best characteristics of community citizenship. A significant, single event is permissible for nomination of this award.
The night’s premier award, named after its first recipient, is the Harry C. Crooker Lifetime Achievement Award. It recognizes an individual for a lifetime of consistent community contributions that reach beyond their hometown. Their actions, achievements and contributions evoke admiration and respect. Accomplishments to consider should span several years, not a one-time event or contribution.
Tickets to this year’s event are $30 and limited to 200 seats. You can register and pay online at www.midcoastmaine.com.
