TOPSHAM — Nanette Sue (Nan) Hinds of Topsham died peacefully on Tuesday June 12 in Daphne, AL after a short, but brave, battle with cancer. She was 59.

Mrs. Hinds was born in 1953 in Hartland, ME to Larry and Norma Giovannucci. She graduated from Dexter High School in 1971, and the University of Maine at Orono in 1975, where she met her future husband David Hinds. After teaching in her hometown of Harmony, ME for two years, Mrs. Hinds began a long career in MSAD 75 in 1978. She moved to Bowdoinham Community School in 1984, where she taught kindergarten, first grade and Reading Recovery until her retirement in 2006. Outside of her family, nothing gave her deeper satisfaction than teaching children how to read.

At various points in her retirement, Mrs. Hinds lived with her husband in Australia and Alabama, and enjoyed spending long stretches of time with their quadruplet grandchildren in North Carolina, who were the joys of her life. She was also an avid cook and quilter, and a fan of the Boston Celtics.

Mrs. Hinds is survived by her husband of nearly 37 years, David Hinds; her sons and daughters in law Scott and Michelle Hinds of Holly Springs, NC, and Todd and Jessica Hinds of Worcester, MA; her grandchildren Emma, Patrick, Rebecca and Sam Hinds of Holly Springs, NC; her parents Larry and Norma Giovannucci of Harmony, ME; her sisters and brothers in law Jan and Dan Breton of Scarborough, ME and Gloria and John Pease of Norridgewock, ME; eight nephews, one niece and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
