BRUNSWICK — Michael Francis Conrad passed away June 4th 2012 at the Bodwell House in Brunswick, Maine with both courage and dignity. He was born in Washington D.C. on February 12, 1953 to Raymond Conrad and Mary MacInnes.

He is survived by his wife Sally Conrad of Harpswell, daughter Cyndy Conrad of Severn Maryland, stepdaughter and husband Sarah and Scott Kincaid of Rancocas New Jersey and stepdaughter Christine Labbe of Brunswick. He has three grandchildren, Kaylynn, Caiden and Lily who will miss their Papa very much. He has a stepsister Bo White and stepbrother Larry Conrad both of Maryland. He has a deceased brother Paul Conrad and many in-laws from the Brown side of the family.

Michael served his country for several years as a Marine Sergeant during the Vietnam era. He then was stationed in Brunswick, where he found his home for the remainder of his years. He worked for many years as a mechanic and truck driver for Brunswick Public Works. In 2001 he was employed by Brunswick School System, as a custodian at Coffin School, where he worked with a great staff and children alike. All the children knew him as “Mr. Mike”, enjoying his sense of humor and helpful hand. He was diagnosed with his brain tumor in 2008 and through treatment was able to defy his illness for four more years. He volunteered his time and energy at Coffin School and at Harriet Beecher Stove assisting the secretary, doing whatever task was asked of him.

Michael was also a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and the Brunswick Elks, where he spent many nights entertaining as a Disc Jockey. Michael had a lot of friends and had the gift to talk to anyone. He loved to golf, camp and the occasional game of cribbage. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was always there for them at anytime.

His wife would like to extend a special thanks to Chans Hospice, Dr. David Benton and staff for the great treatment and care. A special thanks to Angie Petre, a great friend living in Germany, sister in-law Brenda Mithcell and sister in-law Mary Freeman for help at home.

There will be no service out of respect for Michael’s wishes. A committal service will be held at Maine’s Veteran Cemetery in Augusta on June 29th at 1:00pm.
